Don't forget to count dead loads in your structure

Dead load consists of self weight of the structure and any static material which is fixed to the respective structure.

Some of the common dead load in the building are listed below:

  • Self Weight of structural elements : Beams, Slabs , Foundation, column etc.

  • Floor and Ceiling finishes (Superimposed dead load) : screeds, ceilings and ceiling finishes

  • Common services in residential and commercial building : ducts, cable containment, pipes and ceiling lights.

  • Partitions : mainly used in the office building, can be installed anywhere and act as load bearing member

Please ensure not to include the following in the dead load :

  1. Movable partition

  2. Plant room accessories

  3. Gym equipments

  4. Electronics equipments

  • Favourable condition : 0.9

  • Unfavourable condition : 1.1

Superstructure design

  • Favourable condition : 1.0

  • Unfavourable condition : 1.35

Substructure design

  • Favourable condition : 1.0

  • Unfavourable condition : 1.0
